With some stretch in them so you can bend over and not feel uncomfortable and slightly high waisted to allow you to tuck a shirt in should you have to. The length is perfect to wear with walking/hiking boots, however, if you want to 'jazz' them up, just roll up the bottoms to create a lovely high ankle length.
